Chris Baker

Managing Director, McDowalls

Chris has been the owner of McDowalls since 2011 having started his professional career as a property manager there in 1999. McDowalls specialises in residential lease extensions and freehold enfranchisement cases; residential private rented sector management; and, property licensing. Its clients include local housing associations, private clients, local authorities and corporate clients.

Corinna Bishop

Executive Director of Finance, RHP

Corinna joined RHP as Executive Director of Finance in July 2017. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and has operated at Director level in a wide variety of industries. Before joining RHP she was Interim Group Finance Director at Thames Valley Housing, and a consultant advising on the Thames Valley and Genesis Housing Association merger.

She also worked on the successful IPO at the UK’s Leading Retirement Builder McCarthy & Stone, was Interim Chief Financial Officer at Eversholt Rail and spent over 10 years in Bupa, including as Chief Financial Officer of Bupa Latin America in Miami.

Andrew Bannister - Director, Earl Kendrick

Andrew Banister

Director, Earl Kendrick Building Surveyors

Andrew graduated in 2015 from Nottingham Trent University with an Honours Degree in Building Surveying, he subsequently qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2018 and quickly moved through the ranks with his employers before joining Earl Kendrick.

Andrew started his career as a building surveyor within the residential leasehold sector and he has continued within this sector he has a passion for. Client care is at the forefront of Andrew’s business mind-set and he backs this up with his surveying skills that he continually trains to grow. Andrew has recently trained to become an APC assessor and is an APC counsellor helping the next generation of surveyors obtain chartership.

Sarah Chatfield - Director of Home Ownership, Anchor Hanover

Sarah Chatfield

Director of Homeownership, Anchor Hanover

Sarah has worked in social housing for nearly 30 years, mainly specialising in leasehold management. She has worked for large G15 organisations such as Clarion, Hyde HA and Metropolitan Thames Valley HA and is currently the Director of Home Ownership for Anchor Hanover – England’s largest provider of specialist housing and care for people in later life. She is a Board Member of the National Leasehold Group and an associate of the IRPM as well as a qualified lawyer. Sarah specialises in all aspects of leasehold management including Service Charges, re-sales and staircasing, income collection and front line housing management.

Barrister, Landmark Chambers

Justin is a barrister at Landmark Chambers. He is the Deputy Editor of the Encyclopedia of Housing Law and the co-author of Leasehold Disputes, amongst various other publications. The legal directories say that there is”…no one better for service charge disputes…” and he is “widely recognised as one of the best of his generation.”

Julian Davies, Earl Kendrick

Julian Davies

Group Managing Director, Earl Kendrick

Julian became a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2004 working for seven years largely in the residential sector. In 2010 he founded Earl Kendrick to build a team of talented surveyors serving a wide variety of clients, across the country.


Over the years, Earl Kendrick’s geographical reach has expanded from London to Manchester, Bristol and Brighton and the group also has a designed based practice in the Cotswolds. Earl Kendrick now benefits from dedicated companies for leaseholder alterations, insurance claim and revaluations, party wall work and a digital surveying division which provides drone and video surveys.

Previously with A2 Dominion and Hastoe, Becca is a key member of the National Leasehold Group and sits on its Executive Board. She has been on the NLG Conference steering group for many years and chaired the event in 2018. Becca is well respected as an expert in all things Leasehold.

NLG Chair & Head of Homeowner Services, The Guinness Partnership 

Kevin was a founding member of the NLG way back in 2010 and has Chaired the group since 2016. He has huge experience managing wide-ranging portfolios of all property types throughout the country and prides himself on promoting a professional approach to delivering services to all customer groups. Kevin represents the NLG in various cross sector initiatives and is a popular speaker at numerous conferences.


Natasha Greenwood

Head of Home Ownership, Sovereign Housing

Natasha is a Senior Housing professional with over 25 years’ experience and wealth of strategic knowledge gained in housing associations and the private rental sector.


Natasha is responsible for a portfolio of 9000+ and the management of homeownership services, including Shared Ownership, Leasehold Freehold, Resales and Staircasing. Extensive experience in setting up new housing services and transforming services. NLA accredited and a former CIH Yorkshire and Humber regional panel member.

National Leasehold Group Conference Speaker: Professor Nick Hopkins

Law Commissioner for Property, Family and Trust Law

Professor Nick Hopkins is Law Commissioner for Property, Family and Trust Law and will be leading work on the reform of several areas of residential leasehold announced in its 13th Programme of Law reform. Prior to appointment as Commissioner he researched and taught property law for over 20 years, and he holds a Chair in Law at Reading University.

Akosua is a pragmatic and resilient litigation solicitor who deals with housing and property litigation related matters. In 2019, Akosua was granted Higher Rights of Audience by the SRA (the solicitors’ regulatory body), allowing her to represent clients as a solicitor-advocate in the Senior civil throughout England and Wales. Prior to becoming a solicitor, Akosua worked in local government for over 10 years.


Rahim Lalji

Rahim is the Head of Property Management at Brunsfield. He has worked in the Leasehold sector for a number of years most notable at Notting Hill Genesis. Rahim’s clients at Brunsfield include Developers, Ground Rent Investors, RMC’s and Social Housing providers. At Brunsfield Rahim is responsible for a portfolio of 1000+ units including residential, commercial on a number of mixed use developments. Rahim has a wealth of experience in the management of newly built developments and holds MIRPM accreditation.

Home Ownership Business Partner – Anchor Hanover

Debbie has worked for Anchor Hanover for over 16 years and is passionate about continually improving standards within leasehold retirement housing. Debbie is also the Chair of the ARHM Board of Director’s and is a fellow of the IRPM. As the Home Ownership Business Partner Debbie is responsible for supporting the organisational infrastructure in handling complex compliance, statutory and operational matters and is also responsible for handling any cases at the FTT(PC).

Jeff is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors with 30+ years’ experience of both commercial and residential property management across all sectors. He has extensive experience of residential leasehold property management with specialist expertise relating to the management and sale of leasehold retirement properties.

Jeff is the author of the Section 20 Consultation section on iSurv, the lead author of the property management section within the RICS UK Residential Property Standards (“The Blue Book”) and the RICS Good Practice Guide on Mixed – Use Property Management. He is a regular Chairman and speaker at Conferences and can provide services as an expert witness.

Amanda Gourlay

Barrister, Tanfield Chambers

Amanda, a barrister at Tanfield Chambers, is recognised in Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500. She is known for her expertise in residential landlord and tenant law, covering service charges, the appointment of a manager, the right to mange, breaches of covenant, forfeiture and associated legal costs. That expertise is regularly deployed in courts and tribunals ranging from the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) to the Court of Appeal, where she was led by James Fieldsend in Sheffield City Council v Oliver [2017] EWCA Civ 225 and represented the successful leaseholder in Skelton v DBS Homes (Kings Hill) Ltd [2017] EWCA Civ 1139.


She is a contributor to the 4th edition of “Service Charges and Management” by Tanfield Chambers. Her popular and well-regarded blog, Law and Lease, summarises and comments on service charge decisions. In 2016, she was awarded the fellowship of the Institute of Residential Property Management.

Ken brings over 10 years’ experience of leasehold property and service charge management in the social housing sector. He currently serves as the Head of Leasehold for A2Dominion Group with a portfolio of over 7,000 leasehold properties. Ken is both an active member of the National Leasehold Group and the National Leasehold Conference Steering Group.

Ken holds both MIRPM and AssocRICS accreditations.

Helen Muir

Helen has worked in social housing for over twenty-five years. She is an affordable home ownership specialist with extensive experience in the fields of leasehold management, for both Right to Buy and shared ownership, service charges, sales and
marketing and private sector lettings.


Helen has worked in senior roles for two large housing groups where her responsibilities included the management of around 6000 shared ownership/leasehold homes and sales programme delivery, along with setting up and running the largest Help to Buy Agency in England. As a consultant since 2012, Helen has provided interim management and operational support to a range of registered providers, local authorities and private sector companies.

Simon has over 25 years’ experience working in the Social Housing Sector. He has experience across many different housing portfolios, with specialism in service charges and income management. Delivering change and transformation projects for the past 9 years, he now focuses on consultancy and designs/embeds service improvement whilst enhancing resident experiences. Simon is an original member of the NLG and helped organise the original conference 10 years ago! He also owns a successful website design company, designing and maintaining websites for both new and established businesses.

James Shand

James has over 40 years’ experience in the IT industry. He has previously created strategic consulting businesses supporting the digital document industry with clients such as VW Financial Services, Severn Trent Water, FirstAssist, Jersey Post, Canon Europe, British Telecom, Kern (UK) and edotech (Barclays Bank). In 2000 he joined the edotech MBO team and secured such clients as British Telecom, MBNA Bank Europe, Legal & General, ING along with Barclays Bank. James has been an active member of various industry associations, including President of Xplor International. He gives regular thought-leadership talks and presentations at leading industry events.

Mark joined Hera as the Managing Director, as of January 2018.

Mark has worked in affordable housing and property management since 1994. During that time he has personally managed and led teams providing services to a wide range of tenures including shared ownership, leasehold management, commercial, student accommodation, Intermediate Rent, PRS and Managing Agent services.

Chris is currently the Leasehold Income and Compliance Manager at Network Homes. He has worked in Leasehold and Home Ownership for 14 years within both local authorities and housing associations specialising in Right to Buy, Section 20 Compliance and Income Collection. Chris is an active member of the National Leasehold Group and the Chair for the London Branch of the NLG.
