Andrew graduated in 2015 from Nottingham Trent University with an Honours Degree in Building Surveying, he subsequently qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2018 and quickly moved through the ranks with his employers before joining Earl Kendrick.

Andrew started his career as a building surveyor within the residential leasehold sector and he has continued within this sector he has a passion for. Client care is at the forefront of Andrew’s business mind-set and he backs this up with his surveying skills that he continually trains to grow. Andrew has recently trained to become an APC assessor and is an APC counsellor helping the next generation of surveyors obtain chartership.

Andrew joined A2Dominion in 2018 having previously worked at Glazer Delmar, Devonshires and Olswangs. His role at Glazer Delmar was to work with major Registered Social Landlords, providing legal representation where required and general support advice on tenancy management issues.

 

Andrew personally recognises the overwhelming necessity for the provision of secure and affordable housing accommodation to those who need it and the requirement to regulate that market, via the courts as a last resort if necessary.

Corinna joined RHP as Executive Director of Finance in July 2017. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and has operated at Director level in a wide variety of industries. Before joining RHP she was Interim Group Finance Director at Thames Valley Housing, and a consultant advising on the Thames Valley and Genesis Housing Association merger.


She also worked on the successful IPO at the UK’s Leading Retirement Builder McCarthy & Stone, was Interim Chief Financial Officer at Eversholt Rail and spent over 10 years in Bupa, including as Chief Financial Officer of Bupa Latin America in Miami.

Housing Ombudsman

Richard was appointed as Housing Ombudsman from 1 September 2019. He has extensive experience in the housing sector, with previous roles including Deputy Mayor of London for Housing, chair of the Homes for London board and non-executive director of Homes England. During his eight years at the Greater London Authority, Richard was responsible for a major investment programme, overseeing the delivery of 100,000 affordable homes and regeneration plans for 670 hectares of land owned by the authority.

Richard led the creation of the first team at City Hall to address rough sleeping, commissioning around £10 million of services each year, as well as the first Social Impact Bond on homelessness.

Marcus has worked in the social housing sector for over 25 years, originally as a housing officer in local government. He has a passion for improving the experience of customers and providing fair and equitable value for money services. Marcus is a housing diversity network mentor and believes in investing time in colleagues to help them achieve their potential and career goals. He firmly believes in making work an enjoyable experience. With a keen interest in politics and current affairs, he is passionate about the role housing can play in improving people’s lives both in terms of eradicating homelessness and making home ownership affordable for all.

Sarah has worked in social housing for nearly 30 years, mainly specialising in leasehold management. She has worked for large G15 organisations such as Clarion, Hyde HA and Metropolitan Thames Valley HA and is currently the Director of Home Ownership for Anchor Hanover – England’s largest provider of specialist housing and care for people in later life. She is a Board Member of the National Leasehold Group and an associate of the IRPM as well as a qualified lawyer. Sarah specialises in all aspects of leasehold management including Service Charges, re-sales and staircasing, income collection and front line housing management.

Emma is passionate about getting it right from the beginning. She brings over 10 years’ experience in the social housing sector and has worked in finance, leasehold and service charge management. She currently serves as the Head of New Homes & Quality for Peabody with annual handovers of over 1000 homes, bringing the voice of her experiences in leasehold management for new developments. Emma is an active member of the National Leasehold and the G15 working groups that are developing the homeownership charter.

 

Emma is MIRPM accredited and is alumni of the Oxford University  Said Business School Women in Leadership programme.

Julian became a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2004 working for seven years largely in the residential sector. In 2010 he founded Earl Kendrick to build a team of talented surveyors serving a wide variety of clients, across the country.

 

Over the years, Earl Kendrick’s geographical reach has expanded from London to Manchester, Bristol and Brighton and the group also has a designed based practice in the Cotswolds. Earl Kendrick now benefits from dedicated companies for leaseholder alterations, insurance claim and revaluations, party wall work and a digital surveying division which provides drone and video surveys.

Kevin was a founding member of the NLG way back in 2010 and has Chaired the group since 2016. He has huge experience managing wide-ranging portfolios of all property types throughout the country and prides himself on promoting a professional approach to delivering services to all customer groups. Kevin represents the NLG in various cross sector initiatives and is a popular speaker at numerous conferences.

Morayo is a specialist landlord and tenant and real property barrister, with a particular interest and experience as an advocate, in discrimination cases.  Her strong residential L&T practice derives from her background in social housing, local government and public law and makes her uniquely placed to handle complicated issues arising in mixed use property developments, whether involving the residential, commercial or social housing units. 

 

She is a recommended Social Housing junior in the legal directories and the author of Chapter 9 “Hoarders and Nuisance neighbours” in the online Lexis Nexis book Social Housing Law in Practice, a Consulting Editorial Board Member for Public Law and Local Government with Lexis PSL and a member of the Metropolitan Police legal services panel.  Morayo is a Deputy District Judge on the Northern Eastern Circuit and a Chair of the Valuation Tribunal for England.

Amanda Gourlay

Barrister, Tanfield Chambers

Amanda, a barrister at Tanfield Chambers, is recognised in Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500. She is known for her expertise in residential landlord and tenant law, covering service charges, the appointment of a manager, the right to mange, breaches of covenant, forfeiture and associated legal costs. That expertise is regularly deployed in courts and tribunals ranging from the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) to the Court of Appeal, where she was led by James Fieldsend in Sheffield City Council v Oliver [2017] EWCA Civ 225 and represented the successful leaseholder in Skelton v DBS Homes (Kings Hill) Ltd [2017] EWCA Civ 1139.

 

She is a contributor to the 4th edition of “Service Charges and Management” by Tanfield Chambers. Her popular and well-regarded blog, Law and Lease, summarises and comments on service charge decisions. In 2016, she was awarded the fellowship of the Institute of Residential Property Management.

Natasha has worked in social housing at a senior level for nearly 30 years, and has a wealth of strategic knowledge.

 

Specialising in PRS, Tenancy Management and Leasehold Management,she has worked for large G15 organisations such as Clarion, Affinity Sutton, William Sutton, Habinteg and is currently Head of Homeownership for Sovereign HA a leading housing association in the Southwest.

 

Natasha specialises in all strategic aspects of leasehold management and has set up new services, including market rent, staircasing and resales, customer contact, and most recently a dedicated management company and compliance team.

 

An active NLG member and steering group member, NLA accredited and a former CIH Yorkshire and Humber regional panel member.

Michael takes his down to earth and transparent approach as the foundation for building strong relationships. With a variety of skills honed from working in all areas of Housing, Michael is an effective communicator with a passion for co-regulatory engagement.

Professor Nick Hopkins is Law Commissioner for Property, Family and Trust Law and will be leading work on the reform of several areas of residential leasehold announced in its 13th Programme of Law reform. Prior to appointment as Commissioner he researched and taught property law for over 20 years, and he holds a Chair in Law at Reading University.

Prior to becoming a solicitor, Akosua worked in local government for over 10 years.

Christine Land is a lawyer with the Law Commission, working on the reform of residential leasehold law, and in particular, the reinvigoration of commonhold.

 

Until taking up this appointment, Christine was a solicitor-advocate specialising in housing management and leasehold within the social sector. Areas of focus included policy and procedure review, disrepair, successions / exchanges, possession against trespassers, rent reviews, service charge statutory consultations, rent and service charge debt recovery, Right to Buy/Acquire and commercial lease disputes.

 

Christine qualified as a solicitor in 2013, after studying English and French Law at Kings College London and Sorbonne, Paris.

In addition to his day job Shaun is a visiting Scholar at the University of Greenwich, a member of ARMA and IRPM health and safety committees, a member of the HSE Myth Buster Challenge Panel, and a Member of the Policy and Standards Committee at the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health. Steve is the chair of the National Housing Association Leasehold Forum and has taken an active role in promoting leasehold management as a professional specialism within housing associations.

marketing and private sector lettings.

 

Helen has worked in senior roles for two large housing groups where her responsibilities included the management of around 6000 shared ownership/leasehold homes and sales programme delivery, along with setting up and running the largest Help to Buy Agency in England. As a consultant since 2012, Helen has provided interim management and operational support to a range of registered providers, local authorities and private sector companies.

Jeff is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors with 30+ years’ experience of both commercial and residential property management across all sectors. He has extensive experience of residential leasehold property management with specialist expertise relating to the management and sale of leasehold retirement properties.

Jeff is the author of the Section 20 Consultation section on iSurv, the lead author of the property management section within the RICS UK Residential Property Standards (“The Blue Book”) and the RICS Good Practice Guide on Mixed – Use Property Management. He is a regular Chairman and speaker at Conferences and can provide services as an expert witness.

Simon is an original member of the NLG and helped organise the original conference 10 years ago! He also owns a successful website design company, designing and maintaining websites for both new and established businesses.

In 2000 he joined the edotech MBO team and secured such clients as British Telecom, MBNA Bank Europe, Legal & General, ING along with Barclays Bank. James has been an active member of various industry associations, including President of Xplor International. He gives regular thought-leadership talks and presentations at leading industry events.

Adrian has worked in social housing since the early 1980’s and became involved in low cost home ownership in the late 1990’s. He joined Centra Living (a part of Circle Housing Group) in February 2012 and was responsible for the management of 13,500 leasehold and intermediate housing properties, for the nine Group partners.

 

Following the formation of Clarion Housing Group in December 2016, he was appointed Head of Service Charges. He is an active member of the National Leasehold Group. He is also a member of the CIOH, RICS and IRPM. He is also a board member of Southwark’s newly formed Homeowners Agency.

Named one of the most Influential people in Property Management, Stuart has worked in the property industry for over 20 years and is the Head of Housing at Learning Curve Group.

 

Stuart has owned and run his own Estate & Lettings agencies and Property Management companies,  as well as working for large corporates and smaller independent companies at a senior level. This gives Stuart a unique insight into the industry and some of the problems, requirements and issues around knowledge and training. Having been based rurally in the South West and now in London he also understands the very different markets.

Fayann Simpson OBE has been an L&Q resident for more than 20 years and an involved resident for more than 15 years. Fayann is Chair of the L&Q Resident Services Board as well as a member of its Group Board, Audit and Risk Committee, Governance and Renumeration Committee and was recently appointed as its Senior Independent Director. She has many years’ experience working on IT and resource management projects for global law firms and investment banks. Fayann is also a member of the Independent Safety Steering Group, Chaired by Dame Judith Hackett. Fayann was awarded the OBE in the birthday honours list in 2020 for services to people living in social housing.

Alan specialises in Leasehold Training and Consultancy within the Public Sector. He is Co-Founder and Chief Executive of the National Leasehold Group, a large networking group for Leasehold professionals in Housing Associations.

 

Alan is involved in a number of cross sector initiatives with the aim of improving standards and education in property management. A Fellow of the Institute of Residential Property Management and a regular speaker at conferences.
